Got a dog that is like a race horse bolting out of its crate? If you’re worried that people or kids may be knocked over when you open the crate door to let your dog out, then try teaching your good crate manners. One way to teach a dog to value staying in the crate is to use a verbal cue that tells the dog to go and relax in the crate- and VALUE staying in there. This video shows the use of food rewards as a way to tell the dog to wait until verbally released from the crate even if the crate door is open.

I adopted a 3 month old black labrador and german sheperd mix puppy from the shelter and it seems maybe she has "separation anxiety" because when she is awake i can’t leave her alone for even 5 SECONDS! If i leave her alone in my room to use the bathroom or even get a cup of water she starts whining and barking really loudly. When she fell asleep i left the room to sit in the living room to see if she would wake up and start barking, but when she woke up she just stayed quiet and it seemed to be fine. However when she is awake and i leave the room to get water she barks crazy. I know that she is a puppy and you have to watch her and stuff, but i dont want this to end up as a big problem. Later on there’s going to be times when she needs to stay at home by herself and i don’t know what to do.
-I don’t have money to buy her a crate right now so is there any other ways to train her?
Also, how much water do labrador puppies drink? she drinks alot of water..and she pees every 30 minutes to an hour…
Your dog is not used to being alone. Slowly increase her times alone, and she will get used to it.
It is not separation anxiety yet, but it can develop if the dog is not properly introduced to being on it’s own.
A crate is a must. when you are not home, to protect your dog and your belongings you must crate her.
Look on craigslist.com and see if anyone is selling one or giving one away.
Training her now, to sit stay will help.
Go into the room, command her to sit, and then stay.
when she learns,
walk out of the room, come back and give a treat.
go to the store, comeback and treat her. So she knows you plan on returning.
Also, when you are going, make sure that she has something to do. toys, chews, another dog something!
