yes surely, in fact i have heard that labradors are rather strong, start it slowly- like first- 5min, then 10min, then 15min, then 20 min etc. if he refuses it, leave him
References :
Pups are learning from the minute that they are born whether it is what we try to teach or not
At this age typically it's best teachers are it mother and litter mates because at this age it is a critical time for learning how to interact with other dogs.
References :
Please don't send her away for training, none of the trainers care about the dogs that they are paid to train. There is no magical way to train dogs and she could be traumatised if you leave her.

Instead, take her to training classes where you will be taught how to train her. You will make mistakes and your first dog will never win accolades. Nevertheless there is no way that you can trust anyone to care for your dog and she could be abused.

I wish that you were in the UK and lived near to me, I would love to help you.
References :
dorothy s

If your Lab puppy is 5 weeks old then he should still be with the mother. It is WAY too early for him to be away from the mother and litter. He will not know how to act in a pack or how to relate to other dogs without guidance from his mother and litter mates. You are setting him up to be a poorly adjusted puppy. he should not be eating human baby food. He should be eating puppy food with milk replacer in it or goats milk.
It is too early to train the puppy as his brain won't be fully developed until he is 7 weeks old. That is why they are supposed to stay with the dam and litter until at LEAST 8 weeks. Do not try to train him. He will not comprehend what you are doing and you will be frustrated.
References :
30+ years of breeding, training and competing with dogs of various breeds, including Labrador Retrievers.

Dreamer hit the nail right on the head. This is a terrible idea. Labradors are not meant to be protection dogs. They are not a guarding breed.
References :
I would NOT ever do that.
1. Both. Good: behave better Bad: Training = no fun accept treats
2. Yes. She will be overjoyed when she goes back to her real mommy/daddy.
3. She will still love you.
4. A dog being trained is not becoming no personality, but becoming a dog with a bigger personality due to experience, and well behaved.
5. A kennel is both to different people. Me? Sleeping in a kennel is both. She will want to sleep in there. She will grow to like it. I personally like my dogs in the bed. Bad: She is restrained.

Why I would not go there:
1.Labs are VERY easy to train.
2. Protection is just a horse field. You may not have one. I understand. or a fenced in back yard.
3. Obedience is easy. If you can teach your own dog to sit, you can teach her anything.
4. Socialization is just letting her sniff your family, and friends. Most dogs like people. Especially labs.
5.5-6 weeks without seeing my dog?!?! RIIIGHT! Never!
6. They might just follow the commands of the trainer, you know.
7. My dog will never sleep in a kennel. He will sleep where he pleases.
8. He would be depressed for about a week. My dog has never spent a night away from me either.
9. I would be scared too. It is okay.
10. I would be depressed 5-6 weeks...
