What size crate will I need for crate training my lab puppy?
I am getting a Labrador puppy and I want to crate train her from day 1. My question is, what size crate do I get? I know that the puppy’s crate shouldn’t be too big or they will ‘mess’ in it. I know that for crate training to work for house-breaking a puppy the crate shouldn’t be much bigger than the dog. I also know that labs grow FAST and I don’t want to buy something expensive that she will just outgrow. I was hoping I’d find a crate that had a "grow with me" divider or something, but I didn’t see anything like that at Petco or Petsmart. Does anyone know if such a thing exists? What size crate should I buy? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
Get a large sized dog crate. 26" W x 42" L x 29" H would be a good size. You can get one of those crate dividers to make the crate smaller and gradually increase the size as your puppy grows. You can buy this at Petco for a good price. But, the crate divider isn’t essential. If you take your puppy out every two hours, they will not soil their crate.

Get a large one, you can use it later when she’s big if you need to confine her for any reason.

Look for a larger crate that will be big enough for her to be in when older, they sell larger crates at petco so maybe you could ask a worker on what size you think will be best and yes some do come with dividers, so look for one that does.
The key with crate training is consistency and never, ever scold her for going in the house. You’ll learn her signs when she has to go. For my dog, he paws at the back door. They tend to circle when they have to go and sniff the ground a lot as well.

A large crate with a divider that you can move and remove once it begins growing larger. They come in different sizes but don’t get a small just because the puppy fits in it now unless you are independently wealthy then you can buy one every few months until it reaches it’s full size by 12-18 months. You can ask any nice sales associate at the pet store, they are mostly very helpful.

I was one of the very first lucky people to gain access to the Professional Dog Training Guide. After going through the guide, I can now see that this can work for any dog problem, because of the the way it was put together. I highly recommend this guide to any dog owner that has a problem they need to sort out.
