My Labrador puppy is just 5 weeks old. Is it a good time to start training him ?
If yes then what should i treat him with ?
He is on human liquid baby food and nutripet infant(solid tablets made from chicken and fish oils). The nutripet infant meal is too hard for him to chew so I give it soaked in water.
BTW guys by baby food i mean milk as in cow’s milk which is properly pasturised (not cartoned, i am not a douche) and high quality infant food, you get infant food for weaning baby(yes food is available for 3-5 month old pups, get your facts right people).
He needs to go back to the backyard breeder he came from for 3 more weeks. This puppy is being fed crap! He needs to be on a high quality, dry puppy food. And yes, he most definitely can eat it – it needs to be moistened with warm water.
When you get him back after he’s old enough to leave his mom and littermates, you start housetraining and training manners immediately. Perhaps you could invest in a good book or two on basic puppy care/training while you’re waiting to get him back.

He should be with his mother and littermates for 3 more weeks. No good breeder ever lets puppies go before 8 weeks old. Period. And it has nothing to do with nursing. Take him back to his mother. Laws were probably broken, so do report the breeder to animal rights groups.

no. i had a dog and we didn’tt start training him until he was 6 months old.
i would wait until he was at least 3 months old. but your dog might be different it always depends on the dog.

Yes it is we just got two lab pups at Christmas. Labs are wanting to learn they want to be kept busy. The best treat a beacon strips from the doggy isle. just break off pieces when he does a good job. Do not give him a whole one he will be burning whole in your wallet fast. Get in on Puppy chow and soak it in warm water that is the best thing for him or what ever puppy food you want to feed him.

5 WEEKS?? Take him back ffs! You do realise that dog is illegal, it should still be on it’s mothers milk I believe, You should atleast be feeding him proper puppy food I mean baby food for humans is designed for HUMANs dogs have completely different requirements

If your Lab puppy is 5 weeks old then he should still be with the mother. It is WAY too early for him to be away from the mother and litter. He will not know how to act in a pack or how to relate to other dogs without guidance from his mother and litter mates. You are setting him up to be a poorly adjusted puppy. he should not be eating human baby food. He should be eating puppy food with milk replacer in it or goats milk.
It is too early to train the puppy as his brain won’t be fully developed until he is 7 weeks old. That is why they are supposed to stay with the dam and litter until at LEAST 8 weeks. Do not try to train him. He will not comprehend what you are doing and you will be frustrated.

At this age typically it’s best teachers are it mother and litter mates because at this age it is a critical time for learning how to interact with other dogs.

yes surely, in fact i have heard that labradors are rather strong, start it slowly- like first- 5min, then 10min, then 15min, then 20 min etc. if he refuses it, leave him
