Unless you have the time and the patience AND money, it’s best to lave the training to professionals. For one thing, you have to have special permits to be able to obtain actual explosives/components and drugs you will need. The governement won’t give those permits unlessyou are a licensed facility with proper accreditation. Also, you need lots and lots of open spaces. Also, the dogs used for such skills are handpicked while they were still puppies. They have shown the proper temperament for such work. Please consider that such training requires alot of training for both dogs and handle. This is not some parlor trick skill that you can teach your dog to impress friends (and girls). If not done properly, both dog and trainer could get seriously hurt. There ar in fact many professional trainers who don’t offer his kind of service because it simply requires too much. I use to train protection and guard dogs but never bomb and drug detection dogs.

The training you are talking about needs to start with obedience and work its way up to the specialized training you seek. Check out the articles at the site below and once you are sure that you dog has the necessary qualifications to go onto the next level, contact your local dog training club. They will be able to tell you if they have such specialized training classes and if not, a facility that can help!

WOW!! How neat, that you are interested in training your dogs like that!!! I hope you continue training them! I would get a dog trainer to give me some tips, if I were you!!
